To pay a special benefit to certain World War II veterans, who are eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits and meet other specified criteria for each month that they reside outside of the United States.

    The Social Security Administration began taking SVB applications in April 2000 and initiated benefit payments in May 2000. In July 2017, the SVB program has approximately 472 beneficiaries receiving monthly SVB payments.
