Program objective

The objective of this program is to fund a wide range of discretionary activities to (A) provide culturally specific activities for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence (B) provide culturally specific activities to promote strategic partnership development and collaboration (C) respond to the impact of COVID–19 and other public health concerns on survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

    FY 2022 American Rescue Plan Grants to Support Culturally Specific Populations supplemental grant awards were issued to Culturally Specific Special Issue Centers with an award amount of $13,200,000 each for three grant recipients that were required to issue subgrants to culturally specific domestic violence and sexual assault organizations nationally. Two grant awards were made to the National Indian Resource Center and the Alaska Native Tribal Resource Center on Domestic violence with an award amount of $4,500,000 each with requirement that to issue subgrants tor LGBTQ two-spirited communities, urban Indian organizations, and American Indian/Alaska sexual assault organizations.

    In 2023, 35 awards were made in the amount of $214, 285 to each recipient.

    In 2024, 35 continuation awards were made in the amount of $214,285 to each recipient. In Fiscal Year 2023 and again in Fiscal Year 2024, the Office of Family Violence Prevention and Services (OFVPS) at the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Children and Families (ACF), awarded $7.5 million in FVPSA funding to support 35 cooperative agreements to Culturally Specific Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (CDVSA) grants for culturally specific organizations and programs to provide trauma-informed, developmentally sensitive and culturally relevant services for children, individuals, and families affected by sexual assault and domestic violence from racial/ethnic specific populations, underserved communities, and historically marginalized communities across the nation.

    The new and continuation awards build a stronger public health response to violence, trauma, and abuse increasing safe and equitable access to survivor-centered, trauma-informed interventions for adults, children, youth, and individuals impacted by dating violence, family violence, domestic violence, and sexual assault every day in this country.
