Program objective

The Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program aims to screen individuals described under section 4 (a) (1)(A)(i) or 5(a)(1)(A) of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (42 U.S.C. 2210 note) for cancer as a preventative health measure. Also, to provide the appropriate referrals for medical treatment, ensure the provision of appropriate follow-up services, as well as develop and disseminate public information and education programs for the detection, prevention, and treatment of radiogenic cancers and diseases.

    Since 2002, RESEP awardees have assisted in the filing of over 4,952 claims for compensation under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA). During this period, claimants who sought assistance from RESEP grantees have enjoyed a claim approval rate of 85.5%.

    Since 2002, RESEP awardees have assisted in the filing of over 4,952 claims for compensation under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA). During this period, claimants who sought assistance from RESEP grantees have enjoyed a claim approval rate of 85.5%. While RECA authority expired in 2024, RESEP awardees will continue to support communities across the nation with outreach and education activities on radiogenic diseases and the importance of early detection and provide appropriate information and referral resources for preventive services.
