Program objective

This assistance listing encompasses: (1) motor vehicle safety research, development, and testing programs and activities, including activities related to new and emerging technologies that impact or may impact motor vehicle safety; and (2) the collection of motor vehicle and highway safety data and related information to determine the relationship between motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment performance characteristics and crashes involving motor vehicles and deaths or personal injuries resulting from those crashes.

    Global Human Body Modeling Consortium: • Development of a 50th percentile female human body model • Continued validation of human body models in reclined postures • Development / validation of aged and obese models • Continued refinement/validation of standard detailed and simplified occupant models • Allowed for development of virtual testing program • More precise injury assessment

    Auto-ISAC: • Designed and pilot tested a vehicle cybersecurity curriculum with courses that included fundamental and advanced topic with practical lab components. • Pilot tested fundamental courses as on-line, on-demand training • Introduced and pilot tested a vehicle cybersecurity certification examination • Auto-ISAC initiated a sustainment phase to continue meeting automotive industry cybersecurity training requirements.

    National Advanced Driving Simulator • Used to study how drivers respond to vehicle failures, driver distraction, and the effects of alcohol impairment.
