Program objective

The Jobs for Veterans State Grants (JVSG) program provides federal funding through a formula grant to state agencies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Recipients use this funding to hire dedicated staff that provide individualized career and training-related services to eligible veterans and eligible persons with employment barriers, and that assist employers in filling their workforce needs with job-seeking veterans.

  1. 2022

    In Program Year (PY) 2021, JVSG program exiters had an employment rate of 53.5 percent, median earnings of $7,998 in the second quarter after exit, and an employment rate of 51.9 percent in the fourth quarter after exit. Of the 43,520 participants served in PY 2021, 94 percent received individual career services from a DVOP Specialist.

  2. 2024

    In Fiscal Year 2024, VETS distributed $175,662,507 to 54 state agencies. With those funds, the states supported approximately 1,338 full-time equivalent staff across the country who provided individualized career services to eligible veterans, eligible persons, and transitioning service members.

    Performance outcomes under this grant are captured by program year (July 1 through June 30). For Program Year 2023, ending June 30, 2024, VETS will release the performance outcomes by December 2024 on our website at www.dol.gov/agencies/vets/programs/grants/state/jvsg/performance. Outcomes will include the numbers of participants served by grant-funded staff in each state, participants’ rates of employment retention in the second and fourth quarters after program exit, and participants’ median earnings in the second quarter after exit.
