Program objective

Groundwork furthers the mission of the National Park Service by extending the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation to underserved urban areas. The Program provides financial and technical assistance to support private nonprofits and local government working in communities impacted by brownfields for the purposes of reusing brownfields and underutilized lands and waters as parks, trails, and green space.

    Supported the development of ten brownfield reuse planning projects that will result in new trails, parks, community gardens, and conservation areas in Groundwork communities across the country, and supported the development of four youth and adult workforce development programs focused on climate resilience, stewardship, and equitable development.
