Program objective

To plan for, establish, manage and protect trees, forests, green spaces and related natural resources in and adjacent to cities and towns. The urban and community forestry program provides ecosystem services, social and economic benefits. It links these benefits to governmental, private and grassroots organizations and resources to improve the quality of life in these cities and towns.

    In FY2024, Urban and Community Forestry Program entered into hundreds of agreements with cities, local governments, Tribes, colleges and universities, and non-profit organizations using Inflation Reduction Act funds to deliver on tree planting and maintenance projects, community engagement, workforce development and urban forestry corps work, and urban forest planning and management in all 50 states, District of Columbia, and the island territories.
