Program objective

To conduct research and education programs that are objective, operationally independent, and external to the Federal Government and that concern the effect of public policies and trade agreements on: (1) the farm and agricultural sectors (including commodities, livestock, dairy, and specialty crops); (2) the environment; (3) rural families, households, and economies; and (4) consumers, food, and nutrition.

  1. 2023

    The project advanced an existing climate change model to look further into the future when accounting for greenhouse gas emissions. This is a step towards developing a tool that allows certain biofuel-related questions to be addressed over a time horizon of about 20 years.

  2. 2024

    The project developed a 10-year stochastic baseline which included updating supply/utilization, livestock, price, policy, and macroeconomic date in the international crops model and updating the Western States cow-calf, dairy, and hay models with livestock inventory, prices, macroeconomic data and adjusted for recent market developments.
